The Channon Market is without a doubt one of my favourite markets in the region, and one that also brings back some super happy childhood memories for me too. As me, my sisters and cousins used to “help” …. and by help …… I mean more like we would eat our body weight in Samosa’s and Satay Sticks ……. at my aunty and uncle’s food stall, “The Irish Man” which was kind of an interesting name for the food stall …… being that they predominately sold food that was anything but typical Irish fare……. but I guess ……… it was the 80’s ….. and it was a magically time in Byron when everyone was happily dancing to the beat of their own drum!
(Bubblers are always cool)
The Channon Market takes place the 2nd Sunday of every month, with up to 240 stalls and has been proudly running for some 41 years! If you are coming from Byron it will take you approximately 45mins, on a picturesque drive through the hinterland. If you have time, make a detour on the way back and head to Minyon Falls for a bushwalk and to dip your toes in the cool water.
(Make sure you treat yourself to a Shiatsu Massage with Patrick)
I usually head straight for a Shiatsu massage with Patrick (who also has a stall at the Byron Beachside Markets, Bangalow Markets & the Byron Twilight Markets), Patrick is a gifted Shiatsu practitioner with a real passion for his art. I’d highly recommend having a 60min massage with Patrick shift your mind and body into the relaxed Byron holiday vibe.
You’ll also find Patrick’s beautiful wife Estelle at the markets (Estelle is usually opposite or next to Patrick), selling organic essential oils, scented lip balms and also sorts of other lovely organic body oils and moistures to calm your mind and lift your spirits.
(Estlelle makes all her own blends and uses organic ingredients : good for your mind, body and soul)
Another of my favourite food stalls in the guy that sells frozen 100% fruit ice creams! Yep literally all fruit, nothing but the fruit. On a recent visit, I had a divine banana and strawberry combo, it definitely made me wonder why the *&^%$#@ we would want to buy and eat any ice creams that are not 100% naturally awesome!
If dumplings are you thing, then you need to head to the Japanese food stall and dive into their authentic and off the hock amazzzzzzzzing Gyoza and or fried chicken! The more I think about it, the more I think we all should just live on fresh, homemade tasty market stall food like every single day!
