Fresh is best, is a well-regarded turn of phrase in the food industry and one that rings true at Fishheads Restaurant with views across the Bay.
Fishheads has been part of the dining scene in Byron for longer than I can remember, and has always been highly regarded for their focus on super fresh seafood, cooked with minimum fuss for maximum flavour.
On my most recent visit I was dining solo, feeling super hungry, and in no mood for making big decisions. So, I basically ordered up a storm, ate myself happily stupid and took home what I couldn’t finish for later. Why such a greedy approach? Well simple really, I crave experiencing a variety of flavours and never want to feel like I’m missing out!
Super Duper Fresh Oysters
The Tuna Takaki arrived ruby-red fresh and glistening in its natural omega oils, served with a clever and vibrant salad of cucumber, radish and fresh Asian herbs along with a cheeky little sesame dressing. All of which came together to dance, rather magnificently and mesmerizingly, on my tongue with each and every mouthful! My Grilled Baby Squid with chimichurri and spicy capsicum couli were served perfectly grilled and incredibly tender, so much so that I rang my boyfriend (who was playing cricket) and left him a message about what a tasty sensation he was missing out on! A dozen oysters were next, with a mix of dressings for a little something different, with my stand-out favs being the wakame and soy, and the raspberry mignonette dressings. Fishheads proudly also serve a make-your-own seafood platter. Yes, you read it right! You get to choose exactly what arrives on your seafood platter, and how much of it. I mean really, does life get much better than that?!

Tuna Tataki a tasty mouthful
The legends at Fishheads not only love their seafood, but equally love this beautiful community of ours too. Every year, owner Ralph gives up his Christmas Day, along with the Fishheads crew and the good folks at Liberation Larder, to cook for those in need – putting on an epic lunch and sharing in the true meaning of Christmas with folks who are in need of a good feed and kindness. If you would like to donate to this community lunch, please drop into Liberation Larder with fresh produce or a cash donation.
Fresh as make your own Seafood Platter
If eating deliciously fresh take-away fish‘n’chips is more your thing and you want to donate at the same time, head to Fishheads in December to buy your fish‘n’chips, and Fishheads will donate $2 to Liberation Larder! Just one more reason to love this town and head to Fishheads for a heart-and-soul-warming dining experience.
