Yahooooooo last night our beautiful region was awarded the 2016 Delicious Produces Award for “Outstanding Region“, I’d like to say that I am surprised BUT I am not, thoroughly delighted and cartwheel happy ….. yes!  But not remotely surprised that a region that has an abundance of local farming talent, fertile soil, unique micro climate, pristine waters and some seriously passionate food loving locals, has taken this rather prestigious award.

One of the reasons this award is so spectacularly important for the region is that is has been awarded to the whole region.  Thus, celebrating all our hugely talented and passionate local farmers and producers, who work tirelessly rain, hail or shine to farm, make and produce the depth of food Byron and the surrounding Hinterland is fast becoming world renowned for.  The award, also further demonstrates how wonderfully unique the region is and how as a region we work together for the greater good, driven by our insasable appetite for quality produce and a shared love of real food with real flavour.

To add to our local awesomeness talent pool, our mates at Salumi Australia were Gold Medalist in the “From the Sea” Category.  Salumi Australia are no strangers to the Delicious Producers Awards roll call list over the years, winning awards with their stunning range of Italian cured meats.  So it is kind’a cool that their recently launched Bottarga (using local mullet roe), was awarded a Gold Medal, a real testament to the Salumi teams talents and commitment to sustainability and sourcing local ingredients.

We feel really lucky indeed to have the opportunity to work with so many local farmers and producers on our Taste Byron Bay Food Tours and sourcing ingredients for our Cooking Classes, I couldn’t think of a better region to visit in Australia to feed your appetite and love of local seasonal produce!  To find out more about our food tours and cooking classes and to make a booking click here.

H U G E  congrats to all the farmers and producers in Byron and of course the magnificent Hinterland, you guys are amazing and we love what you do!

My love of fresh seasonal produce shared and enjoyed around a big table with family and friends started as a young girl for me, and it's a love that has stayed with me my whole life. I am inspired to write recipes that are produce driven, recipes that enhance and showcase fresh local seasonal produce, created to be shared with family and friends. After all great food should be celebrated!
